Philip Washington goes by The Long Defeat and has played in various bands for 15 years, all the while honing his songwriting. He imagines his life as a series of epic adventures. Each song is a chapter, and he has lots of stories to tell. Faith and theology underscore everything he creates. The Long Defeat is his release. With influences all across the board, from Folk to Emo, Metal to Worship, Country to Pop, nothing is off-limits. He composes, arrange, produce, record, mix, and master everything himself.
Rendering his opinion and heartfelt cry to his audience, he says that ‘The Hero’s Journey is one story that is meant to be heard all together, but if you’ve only got time to listen to one song, make it this one. While it’s not the shortest, slickest, or most radio-friendly song on the album, this one is probably the most important. It speaks directly to the issues of injustice in our world, and the greed, hatred and tribalism often at their root. It is a hopeful anthem which calls for peace, unity, and love among all people while acknowledging the sacrifice which those ideals require. At its heart, this song is a reminder that the true enemy is never each other, but rather the mindsets that separate us.‘
The new album ”The Hero’s Journey” releases on Jan 1, 2021. Philip believes that the world is starving for the presence of God, and spiritual authenticity from His followers. This album is his offering.
