The groundbreaking TV series The Chosen came to town this week as Season 4’s London premiere took place on Monday 22nd January 2024. The night consisted of a red carpet (well, grey actually) event graced by the show’s cast and crew members, along with press, key supporter organisations and a host of influencers and celebrities who were on hand to watch the screening of Episodes 1 and 2 ahead of the official release due on 1st February 2024.
The multi-season, first-of-its-kind historical drama around the life of Jesus, has won the hearts of fans worldwide since its Season 1 debut in 2017. The Chosen is the most successfully crowdfunded show of all time and charters new territory this year, as Season 4 takes the show to cinema theatres internationally on release.
On Monday night, AStepFWD representatives O’Neil Dennis (Founder & CEO), Philip Mensah (Head of Multimedia), myself Dr Mikey Adebajo, were joined by Beverley White (P45 Consultancy) and well-loved Broadcaster & Presenter, Lady T. There were also many other VIP guests in attendance including MOBO Award-winner Faith Child, actress and presenter Jennifer Lee Moon, singer-songwriter and author Elle Limebear, The Voice winner Annatoria, Karen Gibson of The Kingdom Choir, HTB and Alpha Course’s Nicky Gumbel, Andy Frost of SJI, Gather Movement & London Mission Collective and more who took to the red carpet in style, in the presence of numerous media platforms such as Premier, TBN and BBC on their arrival at Leicester Square’s Cineworld. The London Community Gospel Choir was present in fine form with a heartfelt performance outdoors to the crowd of guests arriving on the night and live-streamed to 2.4 million viewers around the world. Hosts Sean Fletcher along with David and Carrie Grant did a fantastic job of keeping things moving throughout. It was an absolute pleasure to see London’s prestigious Leicester Square taken over, with Jesus’ name being spoken boldly and excitedly by so many.
After a short interview with the cast, the first two episodes of Season 4 were premiered for the 800-strong London audience as the series’ dramatic depiction of Jesus’ life continues. The Chosen brings the Gospels to life on screen for the viewer and the combination of the scriptures, the historical narrative of their time, and the healthy dose of humour in dialogue make scenes not only accurate but entertaining to watch. The story of John The Baptist (the baptiser) is retold and the team dynamics between Jesus and his disciples (as well as each other) take on new twists and turns in their sojourn.
SPOILER ALERT (Although already reported in the Bible): Season 4 promises to be an emotional watch as John the Baptist is beheaded and Christ’s ministry has garnered the level of attention that has warranted the Jewish and Roman authorities feeling threatened to the point they join forces and are actively discouraging his public appearances. In light of this, Jesus charges his followers to “RISE UP” against this opposition.
The theatrical rollout of Season 4 will begin with a two-week run of Episodes 1-3 from February 1, 2024, followed by Episodes 4-6 in theaters beginning February 15, and Episodes 7-8 beginning February 29 via Fathom Events in the U.S. and Canada. The premiere episodes will also be released in cinemas in Latin America, United Kingdom, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand via a consortium of distributors. After the full-season run in theatres concludes, The Chosen will announce its debut across streaming and linear TV platforms, as well as The Chosen TV and mobile apps.
