Gospel Artiste of the Year (2021 Ghana Music Awards UK) Yvonne Asamoah-Tawiah released her latest ‘Give Me Rest’ single last month. The cinematic video has been doing the rounds and we caught of the the UK based singer-songwriter and British Armed Forces HR Specialist to ask her about music and more. See the interview below with Minister Yvonne below.
Tell us a little bit about your latest single ‘Give Me Rest’ and the inspiration behind it
First and foremost, I must say rest is a gift. Therefore, in all our endeavours, one must ask God for rest, especially, in the midst challenges that we face. Personally, I have gone through ups and downs and I have known that at every point in life there is an obstacle. Besides, Give me Rest is the first song I have ever written after receiving the instrumentals. I’m blessed with the gift of melodies and rhythms and all that it takes is to be in the presence of God. The first time I heard the instrumentals, I was quickly led to Mat 11:28-30 “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Frankly, little did I know that it was meant for me. Through all my struggles in Ministry, relationship and many more, it took Mat 11:28-30 for me to change my prayer pattern and ask God for Rest. And yes, I received it!
If you could work with any artist, who would it be and why?
Minister Maranda Curtis. Sincerely speaking, I don’t take steps in ministry without asking God for directions and I must say there are a few great ministers of God I am praying about of which she’s one. I just admire Minister Maranda Curtis – her melodic tone, natural flow in worship and her passion for the ministry simply envelopes me.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I serve a limitless God, so I try not to box myself into one specific style of music but to allow God to flow through me. Therefore, when the melody and message are good and acceptable to God, we have great music. And my greatest influence is the word of God. As a stimulant, it nourishes me, keeps me going.
Who are you listening to right now?
Myself [Giggles]. I’m listening to my destiny-changing Faith Album as well as the late Dr Myles Munroe – an evangelist and avid campaigner of the kingdom work.
Can you tell us anything about your future plans for music?
The future looks great and I’m quite nervous which is my confession. God willing 31 March 2023 will be exactly three years since I went fully commercial with my Ministry and for what God has done within these 3 years, I’m nervous to witness what is a head. Please remember me when you say a word of prayer. And in the nearest future, we are on tour and can’t wait to see you and my loving fans. Thank you.
