StepFWD Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient Graham Kendrick has been writing with a number of UK worship leaders and songwriters to create an album of songs for the local church and Songs From The Soil have now released their debut self-titled project. Above we have one of the songs, ‘I Trust In Jesus’ featuring Graham Kendrick & Jodie Alexander-Frye.
“Songs From The Soil” was released last week and exists to reignite the UK Church’s songbook by creating fertile spaces where new songs of worship might grow. Seeking to gather and inspire songwriters and worship leaders from all over the UK, and craft songs infused with the flavour of their local context, “Songs From The Soil” captures a return to the land in the melodies and sung theology.
Over the years, the UK Church has had the privilege of singing timeless classics from the saints of old; hymns both ancient and modern. In recent years, we have also been blessed with the multifaceted wisdom and creativity of the global church, however, it seems we have lost the taste for the homegrown worship song. Songs From The Soil desires to inspire the UK Church to give space to what God is doing in the local as well as the global.
Like a garden, it will need patience and diligence for these new songs to grow, but there is no rush. Taking on the unforced rhythms of grace that marked out the life of Jesus, Songs From The Soil recognises that where we can be patient, we can be healthy.
Now is the time to nurture a new vibrant hymnal to the Lord, a hymnal of songs rooted in a particular place, and a particular time.
